FASHIoN Hip Study

Our principal physiotherapist, Brendan Limbrey, has been chosen to be one of the physiotherapists to deliver physiotherapy treatment in a large international hip impingement study.

The study is named FASHIoN, which is an acronym for Full randomised controlled trial of Arthroscopic Surgery for Hip Impingement versus best coNventional care. Weird acronym – agreed!

In short, the study is looking at whether arthroscopic hip surgery or physiotherapy management provides the best outcome for people with hip impingement who are deemed appropriate for surgery.

Hip impingement (also known as femoral acetabular impingement or FAI) is a condition that largely affects young, active  people. It is whereby the bones of the hip are abnormally shaped and movement overtime can lead to pain.

As well as being part of some very exciting research, which will give some good insight as to best management of people with hip impingement symptoms, Brendan has access to an excellent network of leading hip surgeons, sports doctors and other physiotherapists who are part of the study.

If you have hip pain, it would be worth having someone with experience in managing hips and an eye on best practice management to assess your condition. Call 8850 7770, to make an appointment with Brendan to assess your hip.
